Pack juice and crisps and plan games like counting the colour of cars and make a list of things you have to spot like a treasure map.

Give them a chance to run around, eat and go to the loo before you strap them in. Avoid rush hours, enjoy conversations and observation.

Have travel wipes,bottled water & plastic bags in case of travel sickness but don't put in the boot so you can access them.

Make sure they always wear their seat belts in the car and make sure you have plenty of games including ispy to keep them occupied.

If you are going on a long trip set off at their bedtime and they will more than likely sleep the whole journey. Lots of snacks help too!

Start out early so they fall asleep for part of the journey and make plenty of stops along the way.
