Give them a bath, put them in their PJ's and then get in the car. Hopefully they will be nice and relaxed and will drift off to sleep.

Play the noise game, everything you spot has a sound eg cows go moo - you all shout out the noise and everyone can join in.

Always leave early in the morning so the kids drop back off to sleep. By the time they wake up its time for breakfast so we stop at services

Try and plan your trip around a nap time. plenty of juice, snack and child friendly music.

make spotters booklets with tick boxes for them to mark off types of lorries, foreign registration plates, things of interest on the trip

always have a childs cd ready for a sing along and a game/toy for them, or improvise and play i spy or something :D works for us x

Avoid it!!! Try not to travel too far with small children. I plan local holidays and trips now rather than going on long journeys!

Give them a map they can use to see where they are en route. Even let them mark on it where you've got to and landmarks, etc.
