Let the kids have a small bag each and fill them with their choice of bits and bobs they wish to take on the journey

For long distances with young children - travel at night whilst they sleep.

Portable DVD player. Works in the car but great for occupying the little ones while you eat out.

Have their favourite nursery rhymes and snacks for journey's. As well as having the temperature in the car warm!!!!

rear seat dvd player!! even works on the baby who watchs thomas at 6 months!!

Play who can spot 'the red car' first etc. Also have plain paper and felt tip pens to hand.

try to coincide travel with nap time

Take a big colouring book and some felt tips. If possible, get off the motorway and break up the journey. Good for you, good for them.

Make sure you have a rhyme CD to sing a long with!

Leave early while they sleep in the car.
